In today’s high-tech world, Android and iPhone apps have made international calls affordable for the consumer. Calling to someone who uses the same VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) app as you is totally free with several calling apps. Calling from a VoIP app to land line or cell phone without the app costs start from just few cents a minute. This is all really great. However, the question is, can we do even better?
Yes. With the Vonage Mobile app you can call any phone, be it land line or cell phone, in the US, Puerto Rico or Canada from anywhere for free.

According to Vonage’s official blog, this is an indefinite option. However, they announced the option on February 22, 2012, and today, December 9, 2012, Vonage users are still able to make free calls to those countries, showing that while it might be an limited-time feature, it seems to be limited to a quite a long period.
At this point, you are probably thinking there must be a catch. Free calls to land line and cell phones without the app must be limited to something like 10 seconds a month. Fortunately, Vonage is much more generous than that. The Vonage app allows you to make free calls to the US, Puerto Rico and Canada for up to 3000 minutes/month.
Other than that, Vonage is not much different from other VoIP apps. It works on Wi-Fi and 3G/4G worldwide. It allows you to send free text, picture, and voice messages and make free calls to anyone who has the same app and is currently connected to the Internet. Other great features include a listing of all your contacts who have the Vonage app, as well as an alert every time another one of your contacts downloads the Vonage app.
Calling to land lines and cell phones using the Vonage app outside the US, Puerto Rico and Canada is also competitively cheap. According to Vonage’s official blog, it is 30% cheaper than Skype.
You can download the app (for free) from Google Play.
